Statement: International Women’s Day

Today on International Women’s Day, Pan Africa ILGA declares its continued commitment to the advancement of women’s rights, understanding that lesbian, bisexual, queer, transgender and intersex women are disproportionately affected by intersecting forms of oppression and violence against women.

It is important to always remember that these women are particularly vulnerable to human rights violations, and therefore special measures must be taken to ensure that their human rights are respected, protected and fulfilled accordingly.

We will continue to work with our members and other partners to fight for equality on the African continent, emphasising the intersectionality of women’s identities and how rights need to be based on these intersections.
